Default 1UZ-FE - 4.0L vs. 4.7L Swap

My 1UZ is currently about to take a turn for the worse (270k+ and climbing rapidly) so I was looking at replacement motors.

I came across the 4.7L 1UZ found in the early model Toyota Tundras and Sequoyas.

Is this motor essentially a direct drop in (meaning no special mounts, etc) for this chassis? I'm aware that I'll need the Tundra wiring harness.

Also, will the current transmission in the UCF10 bolt up to this motor?

I'm curious, as these are relatively cheap motors and it's about that time anyway.

Quick note - the motor in this car was never properly maintained by the previous owner and there are quite a few problems with it and I have the coin to spend. I just want to make sure this isn't too crazy.

Thanks guys.

please stop bumping your parts in every single thread....

randomhero, i got your PM but am busy as hell studying for midterms atm, i'll reply soon.

short answer=2UZ will NOT bolt-in to your OEM motor mounts, you need custom mounts. also, why would your 1uz be taking a turn for the worse? as long as it was properly maintained, it should last well past the 500k mi mark.

No worries about that PM bro - just get to it when you have the time of course.

I can fab up some mounts no problem, and I'll tell you a little more about my current motor via PM.

Keep the wheels turning people.

The 2UZ is different internally as well - it uses a 4-bolt main rather than a 6-bolt and I'm not sure if the crank is cast or forged.

look on Lextreme.com you will find all the answers you need. for the swap you need custom pistons so you might as well put rods too. itll tell you everything on there.

i think you have it backwards, to get power out of the later 1/2/3uz you need stronger rods, not so much with pistons depending on power levels. hte reason TRD stopped offering sueprchargers for the 2UZ trucks was because with the 9th injector kit the motor couldnt handle the power and the rods would literallly BEND and destroy the motor inside&out

random hero is saying to just get a whole motor...

as others said... will fit in just fine... all you need is the larger mounts.

he never mentioned using the OEM harness and even said he was willing to use the 2UZ harness which is essential if he wants to use VVT-i.

i know well about lextreme, been a member there a decent amount of time, and know lextreme himself a little

why are you guys thinking hes mixing parts from a 1UZ to a 2UZ?

even the thread title says it... SWAP... whole engine here guys... probably means hes going to use the harness and all 2UZ parts.

I love all this he said stuff LOL!

I am looking for information regarding an ENTIRE swap. I don't want to change the internals, I don't want to build it for boost, I don't want to do a gnarly 5 speed conversion - I just want the 2UZ in my car as well as the 2UZ computer and wiring harness.

I'm asking if this is possible using the stock transmission from the 1UZ as well as the motor mounts.

That is all.

I thank those of you who are providing me with resources - I will check those this weekend when I have some free time!
