Default No acceleration when shifting from Park to Drive

i've done a search high and low on acceleration/hesitation issues and i havent found one that fits my description. i have a 98 ls400 that has issues after being parked for too long ie. overnight, after a full day of work, and etc etc....when i first put the car into drive/reverse my car will just sit there even if i hit the gas pedal. After about 5 seconds i can feel the car "catch" and then will start rolling. As stated before it only happens when my car sits for too long. i've read that 98's on up were built with some sort of delay while driving to allow the transmission to catch up but i havent read any where about it happening when shifting from park to drive. Transmission fluid was flushed Oct 08 if that helps.....

hmm...check the tranny fluid again. i know it was flushed in 08 but flushes tend to hurt the tranny and they might have hit a leak somewhere.

You don't mention anything while driving, so I'm assuming it shifts fine once you get going. like LiCelsior says flushes can create probs. Power flushes can actually clog older trannys instead of cleaning them. Imo, the proper way to do a flush is shown here:
http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/trans...ransflush.html

A lot also depends on what kind of service the tranny has been getting and at what intervals. Proper fluid level (not over and not under) is important. Delayed engagement is a typical symptom of low level. So check the level at normal operating temps. Could be other reasons like low initial line pressure or a lagging/worn clutch but I would check the easy stuff first. You can also pull the dipstick and swipe it on a paper towel, to make sure it's clean with no flakes and not milky or tacky. Check for tdc's.
