Default Check out my new AEM filter from ebay.

These were actually discontinued so you could get them for real cheap, only $12. It is 9" long and has an opening of 3.5", a bigger opening than the stock size of 3", but it just slips easily right on up past the stock connection to a point on the MAF where it is exactly 3.5", cool!

Let me tell u, this thing is a "monster" from 4K up to 6K! It is very very loud, almost like the sound of a turbine engine revving up really fast. I like it alot better than the exposed stock filter mod because it not only is louder, it is now a cone instead of that flat, round looking whiter paper filter. Let me know what u think.

Oh yeah, excuse the dirty engine bay. Its winter here and there is salt on the roads...u know how that goes, too cold to wash your car or engine bay.

good idea but useless without a vent or a heatshield.
what's the point of pulling in HOT air?

and fyi, the OEM paper filter compromises rather well between flow and filtering power.

Ok, i'll do that. Ive been doing sheetmetal now for 11 years and can pretty much lay out and make anything by hand. What should i do? Make a box that completely surrounds the cone filter, yet has an opening that draws air from the front of the car?

yep but i hope thats the prototype cuz doesnt sheetmetal get really hot? also if u really want, u can make a duct on the bottom of the box to a place where it gets plenty of air rushing through it (bumper openings?). good luck cant wait to see this! im sure if you make a decently looking box with gains then the 2LS guys would def buy it. but thats after.

I could insulate the inside of the box with 1/2" liner that has an R value of 4.3

Alright, tomorrow i will measure up what needs to be done for full enclosure, and then build it on Monday. I will try to pull in cold air from the front opening in the bumper via a 3" or 4" inside tap starting collar connected to a length of pipe with an adjustable 90 at the end of it. I will try to have everything done before Christmas.

cool, also put into consideration how to prevent possible water going up that intake. even though the helmholtz resonator might be able to evaporate some of the water, if alot goes in then u are fubar'd.

I recall another member cut into fender well and ran it down toward the bumper - kind of a cool design versus leaving it in the engine bay.
