Brake question-95 LS400
Quick question for you guys. I have new pads in the rear of the car. About 4500 miles ago, had the fronts checked, and shop said they were fine. Pedal was lower than usually what I am used to, but I learned to live with that it is a LS thing, soft pedal.
Lately its being making a squeeking noise. So I am thinking the front pads are gone.
Do you guys recommend OEM or aftermarket?
Difficulty in replacing just the pads?

The brake disks on an LS400 are quite thick -- even the skinny ones on the 90-91 LS last a long time. I'm pretty sure that the 2nd owner of my 90 LS400 has never replaced the disks -- and the car is at way over 250,000 miles.
Pull your front wheels and check the pad thickness -- it's easy to do. I check the pad thickness every time I rotate my tires. The original front pads on my 00 LS lasted 72,000 miles. I suspect the rear pads will go to at least 120,000 miles.
OEM brake pads are pretty cheap. I replaced the front pads on my 90 LS400 one time without turning the disks but the results weren't perfect and now I always have the disks turned. I've gotten lazy and stopped doing brake pads since the repair shop I use doesn't charge all that much to install new OEM pads and turn the rotors.
I'm not sure a low, soft pedal is normal -- I sure don't have that situation on my 00 LS400.

^^ Agreed with the EBC pads.
I put EBC Red Stuffs on my '97 LS400 and have had them for about a thousand miles. No squeak, better fade resistance, and increased braking stability. However, they are putting out a considerable amount of dust, which according to many of the reviews I read, shouldn't be happening.
But the dust is a small price to pay for the performance. I payed $163 shipped, fronts and backs.

Just so everyone knows as to the EBC Redstuffs as i have them. they are special order from summit racing took 2 weeks to get the fronts and i still dont have the rears yet. but they do fit and come with shims built in to them. and work great! Install is very easy.

I got my pads from here:
http://www.carjunky.com/partstore/?N...ND(universal:1))
I had them within a week, though the rears arrived two days earlier. Interesting to note too that the pads have '93-'97 Toyota Supra written on the box; they share the same part numbers as the LS400 ones.
A friend of mine installed them and managed to break the sensor on the right rear assembly...still haven't got around to getting that replaced.
I don't know why I'm getting all the brake dust. I thought that strange since the reviews I read on autoanything.com overwhelmingly contradicted that.
I'm looking at d/s rotors sometime down the road, and autoanything carries ones from Power Slot, EBC and Baer (ascending order in price). I'll probably get the EBCs just to keep everything the same, and the Baers are $60 more a set and not really sure if they're worth it.
