I believe the V bank cover (1995 to 2000 LS) serves no purpose other than for look and it prevent the heat from escaping quickly. Actually the trapped heat keep baking the wiring & rubber hoses underneath it. Well, I'll just remove the cover as of today. Also, I like to open the hood so that my engine bay cools off faster. Do you notice the engine bay is not that hot while the car is running especially on freeway and the hood is not even hot. BUT once you park it, the engine bay gets super hot. So if you plan to keep your car for very very long time, I think removing the v bank cover is beneficial.

P.S. V bank cover is the plastic cover on top of the engine in case you don't know what I'm talking about.

in all honesty it doesnt make a difference, there isnt really much air space between the plastic and the motor anyways, and the thing is bolted to the upper intake manifold, which is prolly the coolest part of the whole damn thing.

do it if you wish, but it won't make a tangible/measurable difference in engine temperature.

oh, and don't forget, the wiring/electronics are meant for high-heat applications, they are MEANT to be "baked"

If you're THAT concerned about heat get some vents in the hood.

could it be possible that the cover is for pedestrians heads who might get slammed onto the hood in traffic accidents?

the cover might serve as a buffer lessening the impact of the head hitting the engine, causing less pedestrian fatalities... i.e. the head would be hitting the cover rather than the ragged edges of the different parts of the engine...

who do you know drives their LS without a hood

that hood is going to give way LONG after the engine cover...

you guys notice without the v cover, 1995-2000 LS engine bay looks very ugly; but 1st gen LS engine bay looks a lot better without the v bank cover. I think that is why Lexus engineer created the V bank cover to decorate it .

idea came from something I saw from the Fifth Gear television show from UK...

pedestrians (heads presumably) survive better when hit if what's under the hood are smoother...

yes, on small cars, which have normally rather thin hoods.

the LS has a massive heavy hood that is fully braced.

Anyone know the part # for the bolts ?
