Ls400 98 Hid Headlight, Is there a Missing Ballast
Dear all,
I bought a used 98 LS400 recently and I found that the headlights are standard halogen not xenon ones.
My friend has got the same car and he told me that it comes OE installed as standard and equipped with xenon ballast and bulbs.
My question is how can I know whether the ballast ware there or not and how can I install one if not....
I found a picture of an OE ballast from toyota..

98's came with HIDs as an option then the following year i believe they were standard. I heard it was because it was such an inexpensive option. But i know that you can tell if the headlight reflector bowl tilts up and down. The HID headlight auto-levels and the halogen does not.

actually, HID was an option in all 98-00 LS400, but in 98 it was much less common since in 99 and 00 most cars ordered had the HID option since it was relatively cheap.
you can't just plug in oem ballasts and D2R bulbs into ur halogen-spec headlights, you need to use an HID conversion kit made for 9006 bulbs such as those from forum vendor xenondepot.com
