Default Loss Of Power

Hello guys/girls...I have a '92 LS400 and it suddenly loss power and I have a lot of heat coming from the exaust (underside) of the vehicle. So heres my question: I have read the threads about the probable ignition coil failure and intend on replacing coils, wires, plugs, cap, rotor, etc. So hopefully, this will correct the loss of powe issue, however, since I drove the vehicle for apx 20 miles with the condition I am concern the cat is cooked and will require replacement. I can now hear what appears to be loose metal in the exaust system (like a broke element from the cat). I especially am concerned because of the extreme heat that came from the exaust. If I replace the ignition parts....will the cat still get hot like before? I had no check engine light or other (owner) warning lights with this failure. Any thoughts? Thanks Gil
