Talking Spark plugs / wires

YES I SEARCHED!
(need more specific answers)

So I've decided on buying Denso Iridium long life plugs. Thoughts on these? How about These VS. NGK iX??

As for the wires I'm debating whether to buy the $117 OEM wires or a set of $150 Vitek wires. I've used Vitek in the past and have been pretty happy with them. However I've read people say many time to just stick with OEM.

My question I guess is... Why?

Why should I stick with the OEM over aftermarket? For me it's between the Viteks and OEM so if there are any solid reasons as to why I should stay away from Viteks I'll buy the OEMs.

Here is a lot of info on the Vitek "ULTRA Series braided wire"
http://vitekperformance.com/technical_wires_ultra.asp

They claim to be finished at 6mm 8mm or 9mm depending on OE requirements, so they are not obscenely oversized for no reason like other brands of wires.

"It should be noted that this construction offers superior dielectric properties and capacitance over larger diameter wires offered by some manufacturers as a marketing gimmick."

Thanks in advance for all advice!

I stayed with OEM because this isn't my performance car. I want to get some high miles out of it, thus stayed with what is recommended.

If you are saying "these offer super performance" then I say go for it.

I run NGK platinum plugs , good for 100,000 K's [ 60,000 miles ] along with Karlyn STI leads , check the leads out for yourself , have so far fitted about 6 sets , probably better than O.E.M .
As for Denso to NGK I believe the NGK has a slightly thicker electrode so lasts a little bit longer .
Who knows , just about to fit my third set .

The Denso's are rated at 60K miles too...

Ryan would a "performance" wire reduce the life of my engine? I'm not saying they will give me a HARDCORE POWER BOOST! but am just looking for the best product which will give me the best results. and make my car run as good as it can.

And the Vitek wire looks like a great product and I've never had a problem in the past, but I'm just curious as to what is better for my car. Or if there is a definite answer/reason to stay OEM.

Absolutely not. I run performance wire and plugs in my other cars, and have never seen any ill effects. Than again I am overly cautious on maintenance and change oils/plugs and everything before necessary. I definitely over do it.

I would go with the ones you have picked out, should be fine.

Personally, I am no OEM fanboy. I went with it, because I bought all my belts and everything else from the OEM dealer, and thus threw in the plugs/wires as well. I don't race mine, abuse mine, so I didn't see the need for additional performance at the moment.

Thanks a lot Ryan. Good info there.

I just wasn't sure if there was a reason to stay with OEM cause I've seen a few people pretty adamant about keeping OEM with the LS.

I also overdo it with maintenance stuff! lol. and likewise I'm not out to go street race my LS and be the fastest thing on the block lol but just want a great product!

I running OEM spark plug wire w/ ngk iridium ix plugs. i havent really seen any increase in performance. i also have a set of stock denso platnium plugs to. i swapped between them. it felt like they worked the same. so........not sure if its going to make a big difference. maybe in fuel economy :]. since i know everyone trying to save gas.

I just made this decision & went with NGK wires at around $90.00 delivered.

I believe that Denso & NGK are somehow now merged though I have no idea if this means their plug wire products are identical.

So would everybody think I'll get "better" efficiency out of the Vitek wires???

I know i'm not going to get +5mpg but if they will be more efficient than OEM I don't mind paying $30 more.

On second thought... this is very interesting

I think I'm just going to stick with OEM and save myself $30, and ANY worries whatsoever!

What thickness are the OEM wires? 5.5mm? 6mm?

Years ago there was a Vitek Power Buy arranged thru this forum.
A search should yield some performance reviews. All I remember was that the incresed diameter caused some install headaches.

I quit procrastinating & had my mechanic change out my oem Sumitomo wires
& put on the NGK's.

To early to check mileage but I think I probably waited too many miles to make the switch.
Not sure if they were 5 or 6mm but they were a perfect replacement fit for OEM.
