Default JUST GOT MY FIRST LEXUS!! Couple questions?

And i'm extremely happy about it!!. Whats going on forum? Name's Lee. After going thru ford taurus SHO's(super piece of crap cars that cost me waayyy more than i paid for this car alone), a sebring, and a diamante, I always told myself my next car would be a Lexus, primarily the LS, because I've always been a lexus fan and I do believe they're one of the best cars in the world. Well, my cousin in florida has a 95 ls400 and he let me drive it. I thought to myself, I have to get one. I was able to get one yesterday. Its a 96 LS400, pearl white, has 126K, which is kinda low, runs very well, needs a lil help on the outside and inside(previous driver obviously did not appreciate his lexus), but i'll change that ASAP. I do have a couple questions, as I'm totally new to lexus and dont have much knowledge about them. I just know they look good and last long, lol.
1. what are some services I should look into @126K?
2. the brake seems to go low when i brake at times
3. the radio light doesnt come on and its not clear, like i cant tell what station is what. And the CD changer doesnt work as well
4. the fan was on when i started the car this morning (67 degrees out), and i didnt have any a/c or anything like that on. maybe that's normal?? again, i'm totally new with lexus so please bare with me, lol

Thats about it for now. Besides that the car runs beautiful. I plan on keeping it for a very, very long time and hooking this baby up!! (rims, navigation, system, etc)

Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Congrads on the car Lee!!! You are going to be so happy with your car and that you left the "other" makes behind. Went down a similar path years ago and I wont buy a FORD or anything similar ever again.

Post up some pics of the new ride! As for the service and other things I will let a member with the LS chime in and be of better help!

Welcome to CL

congrats on buying one of the best cars ever built.
for your services, try to find out what hte previous owner did if anything.
if they did nothing, you need to change all fluids, including brake and rear differential. air filter, pollen filter and last but certainly not least, timing belt should be inspected and replaced if it's never been changed. while you're doing that, i'd do the water pump as well.
for the brake pedal, there may be air int he system if someone did some brake work and didn't fully bleed the system. when you change the fluid, this will also get the air out if that is the problem.
the radio display, that's normal. it's expensive to fix and since you mentioned a new system, just deal with it until you get your new setup.

for the fan, do you mean the electric fan for the a/c?

Well everyone already answered all the questions, so I will tackle this one. Of my last 3 Lexus cars, none of the CD changers worked. They always made a noise, but never played (no they weren't ripped CDs, but real ones).

On my 95LS, the changer actually works (I am very surprised).

So the CD changer is a common thing along the Lexus line. Lots of people go aftermarket as well.

For maintenance, I would do a full base line on the car, and change as much as you can afford. That is what I did, even though, my car was fully dealer maintained. THat way you know what was done and what wasn't. This way you can see 250k+ miles easily. Take care of the car, and it will take care of you.

Good luck.

Welcome to CL - everybody covered the service issues. My electric fan was on all the time after my last timing belt replacement. Look down on the bottom right of the radiator for a wire that plugs into a socket. Mine was unplugged (mechanic forgot to plug it in). This caused the sensor to fail open leaving the fan running. He plugged it in and wala the fan stopped

You could check it. If you can;t see it from above you could remove the under cowling to get a closer look.

Congrats on your LS - great car

Heck yeah man!! Thats awesome! Yesterday I put a new A/C system on it and that ran about $900 ouch. But I guess every car is going to get one once in its lifetime. Next is going to be rebuilding the suspension.

well i called up the dealer the other day and they couldnt find history of this car passed 1999..which means, i'm looking at $925 for the timing belt/water pump, belts job, all at the dealer...and possibly another $600 to change all my fluids .....but the good thing is, i spend about $1500, and that car should be good till way passed 200K...we'll see how things go

I know the feeling. I'm in the same boat. I'm going to have to fork out for it as well, but I think its well worth it to me. We are driving one of the best cars ever made. So I dont mind with the up-keep. I talked to a tech today and he said Moog suspension parts are as good or better than OEM control arms so I'm going to be looking for a set.
