Default Can you recommend a muffler?

Looking to eliminate the middle silencers on my 90 LS400 and run pipes from the Y pipe to the rear mufflers which i want to replace..Can you recommend exact model/size in Magnaflows etc that are the same size as the stock mufflers? Also the bumper has cuts for exhaust tips..What would look great and perform? Thanks!

check out mufflermall.com sometimes they have nice stuff for cheap. I'd go with 2 1/4" piping. Recommend something with a big round tip to fill up the cutouts

Thanks..very cool site...I assume 2 1/4" is the stock piping size of the LS400? Still need to know what size muffler would be best and would maintain the quiet lexus ride.

no, oem is ~2in OD, it has been found that the 1uz in stock form gets the most power/tq balance using 2.25id tubing.

Gotcha...So having a stock Y pipe @ 2" has no bearing on running the rest of the piping at 2 1/4"?

I have straight pipes (with OEM Y-Pipes and no resonators) into Magnaflow wide open series and it is definitely not "the quiet Lexus ride" anymore. Before the Magnaflows it was a little louder than stock. Here's my 95 with 3" round tips as a reference:

Are you running 2 1/4" pipe from the Y back? How much louder? 25%? 100%? Trying to get an idea of where i might be headed.

Pure is right - JBrady wrote a great thread on exhaust including S&S Headers. I have 2 1/4" back from the second Y-Pipe. It is at least 100% louder than straight pipes into OEM mufflers. Just to make it easier here is a link to you tube where I made some movies:

The movies don't really do it justice but it is the best I could do with what I have.

Find that thread on JBrady and it will be a big help though.

Did a bunch of old thread reading...looks like 2 1/4" piping to a pair of Magnaflows (model undetermined) with 3" tips...not racing quality but a little more pumped than stock would be fine...suggestions?

By no means would you want a race-car LS400. So Magnaflow would be a very nice selection. If you really wanted to do it though...rip all the crap out from under it and just drive it....or straight pipes into flomasters would do the trick.

Thanks bro - 95 -

Yeah a race car LS 400 sounds kind of weird but Lextreme did it though.
