Default Thinkin of getting a second gen this Weekend!!

hey guys, so i was drivin the other day and i passed a used car place. yes i know they are terrible.

Anyway, i saw a black 95 LS in the Value Lot. so i looked and it had a price of$3600! It was very clean, 60-70 percent tread and all. I checked online and the car does have 260k on it. But its in what i would call clean. From 20 feet away the car looks great. Leather is very good. I talked to the guy on the phone and he seems deperate to get rid of it. Got it as a trade but could not sell due to high mileage. he says everybody is interested in it until they hear 260k. If it were any other car i wouldn't even consider. But we all know LS400's last much longer than 260k.

So i talked to him and i think i can get it for around 2.6-3k tax included. Should i even bother? he says if he doesnt sell it this week he's takin it to the dealer auction.

I think it might be a nice upgrade from my not so clean 93. Opinions?

triple check the maint records, look at timing belt, PS system, AND take it in for a full pre-buy inspection at a dealership, oh and dont forget the carfax.

THEN buy it for 2500flat.

he didnt agree yet, i just think with 20 minutes of haggling.. i could get it down to that vicinity. he offered 3k just on the phone.

I'm gonna test drive it and do my own inspection (I'm DIY yo ). i know how ls400's should drive and sound. IF the fluids are nice and fresh and everything checks out i'm gonna do it. timing belt was also recently done (he says' but i will ask for proof)

I'm really excited! my 253k ls400 runs fine and its in major need of a tune up.

I think its the best car you can get for the money period. If the car doesnt smoke, and tranny doesn't slip, and the suspesion is not a complete wreck. I think its well worth it.
Even if it only lasts for a year or two.

If everything is in working order then go for it. Even if the engine craps out you could pick up a lower mileage 1UZ and drop it in if the shell is as cherry as you say.

Damn bro, looking at your signature I don't think you really NEED another one. lol
If you get it super cheap and it's nicer than one you already have then go for it.

thats not a bad price at all hehe. 260k miles are nothing on a LS400. as long as the owner before has taken care of it :]. im currently at 200k miles on my 1995 LS400 and have no problems. The only think i see wrong with my car is that the leather its cracking :[. so now it stays in the garage :]. i take my moms car to work lol

you wont be disapointed with a 95. When deciding on my 99 I had a 97 in mind...gun metal on black...beautiful car.

Im not so sure. I just bought a first gen for $2600, and it has 190k. I had to adjust the valves on them, and today i noticed a crack in the radiator, so im gonna replace it myself this weekend. From my experience, I wouldn't buy it because it would have major problems happen a month later. The person is probably selling it so cheap because the seller does not want to deal with the problems, or feels that it will have major problems in the future, so he wants to get rid of it. I wouldn't buy it.
