I had a after market HID kit that came out of my integra. Its the same bulbs used in the 1998 LS400. Me and my friend tried to install it and it didn't turn on when we tried to turn on the headlights. These same hidz turned on while installed in my integra.

We know there is voltage going to the ballast because the other side with the halogen bulb worked.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

well if u KNOW there is voltage going into the ballast then obviously the ballast is dead...

But is there enough Volt. for the High Intensity? I would do as sk suggests and try direct indisputable voltage just to test function.

the ballast came out of a 1998 acura integra. both hoods popped and just moved it from one car to another, then back to the car it originally came out of.

Powered on while in integra. moved over to LS did not power on, moved back to integra, and it powered on with no problem.

You might want to try a multimeter to test if the positive and negatives have not been switched on the Lexus. Some cars do invert the positive and negative in the wiring.

I know this was true on my uncle's 93 GS300.

have you ever used high wattage bulbs in the LS? sometimes high wattage bulbs can warp the inside of the plugs and prevent the plugs from making a solid connection when connected to anything other than a halogen bulb.

I've seen it happen more than once before so this could be your issue.

yea i agree with the invertered power. when i installed my hid kits i had to invert everything.

how exactly would you invert it?

i'm planning on getting 3000k (yellow) HIDs to replace the stock halogen fog lights.

You invert it by switching the wires from the factory harness. So positive becomes negative, negative becomes positive. In other words, if it doesn't work when you plug it in directly, you need to switch out the wires opposite.

I HIGHLY recommend that you use a multimeter to double-check this. I don't want anyone blaming me for zapping their ballast.

It is called inversion -- But that is confusing,.. you are really just reversing, or switching. Taking Positive turning it into negative, taking the negative and turning into positive.

Inversion = Opposite, basically for this scenario.

Though do use a meter to check before you go making polarity changes.

Go buy one from Radioshack for $20.00 -- You can learn to use one in a matter of minutes. Especially for voltage readings.

Read the little manual that comes with it, that is all you will need for 90% of the use.

Reading Resistance, Ohms and such is a little trickier but easily mastered.

I think every man should have at least one Meter, they are cheap, and HIGHLY valuable -- I couldn't get by without one.

So even if you haven't a clue how to work it, buy it. Read on it, learn! =)
