Cool New Member & Lexus Owner

Just picked up this 2000 w/ 222k miles on it. The front suspension is FUBAR (doing some research on how to cost-effectively replace worn out --the dealer wanted over $3k alone just for suspension ) but outside of that, the car is in great shape and I'm enjoying it more every day. Looking forward to weekend projects on this and enjoying it for hopefully it's next quarter million miles. Happy to be here!

I have the same year Platinum Edition LS with 90k miles on it. I thought I had a blown out suspension up front too and it ended up being easy to fix. First make sure all wheels on the car are in balance. Just doing that took care of a vibration I had at 55-58 mph. Second find a set of the three engine mounts. One goes under transmission and other two on each side of the engine. I had to fabricate a wrench to do the drivers side and you do not have to take off the heat shields. Most of the two front engine mounts will be done by feel from under the car behind front wheels. Make sure you do not smack the heater valve up on the firewall when you jack up the engine. It needs to be unbolted and moved out of the way. Lastly I did the front sway bar bushings while doing the engine mounts. I've got the strut rod bushings in a box ready to install but the car rides like new again and may not bother. Even if engine mounts look intact they will be split, especially the driver side one which came out in two pieces. Ozone and heat cycles kill them. Most of my parts were sourced via Amazon at 1/3 dealership prices.

Good luck,

Debbie

my 99 when purchased with 137k on it had a blown front "air suspension" to. Les Schwab declined to do it as they said I need to replace it with another air suspension system or they by company rule could not do it. Found a tire shop near by, and they put on an Air Strut Conversion Kit from Strutmaster which includes Eibach springs, both made in America.
Kit cost $870, freight $89.19, front struts $229.50, rear struts $323.00, 4 wheel alignment $74,
Car rides and handles GREAT! Lexus wanted $3250 just for the front.

From the look of his photos, the air front suspension on his premium model, same as mine, is all the way down in the lowest position. My guess it is shot.

Favorite thing about it ? Feeling refreshed and not tired after a 10 hour drive.
Great interior! Where and how much was it for the upholstry?

Just bought myself this '91 right before Christmas for my gift. It now has 176k on it, I purchased it with 174. Looking at the timing belt change sticker, you can tell it wasn't driven very often. It's last oil change was done even at the local Lexus dealer before I got it. Purchased it from a family who is trying to settle their elderly parents estate. Looking forward to many trouble free miles, just maintaining this classic Japanese luxury car. Trying to keep it as stock as possible, which normally isn't my style, but I feel this one should just be preserved as it is. Even the tool kit was complete and the first aid kit.

Freshly waxed and relaxing in its garage.
Wasn't my first choice for a color combo, but it still smells new and everything works so I couldn't go wrong.
I've been under a lot of hoods, and this is a pretty darn artistic intake.
