So a buddy and I are hopefully going to get this done between tomorrow and Monday. Since YouTube has NO video of anyone doing this on a 90-98 1UZ I'm gonna try to video this as best I can. No promises, but I'll try.

I would not even attempt to adjust the valves in an LS400 without the correct Toyota tools, Toyota shims, and most important of all, the REAL Lexus factory service manual for your year.

if you don't have the factory service manual, you can get a membership to Toyota Technical Information System for $15 and have 2-3 days to look at the appropriate section

there are 33 different shims available from the dealership, in sizes from 2.50mm to 3.30mm in 0.025mm increments

I would not be drinking beer when I did this, as mental or math errors will really mess things up!

Well, I've got the fsm downloaded and plan on picking up the part in the link on page four of this thread tomorrow. I don't have toyota shims right now but figured I'd get them at the local toyota dealership.

triple check all of your math and measurements before going to get shims, and don't forget to use some of the ones you already have in different places to save money!
