Default What is the stock wheel width? How skinny can I go?

I'm buying winter/snow tires, and I want to buy skinnier tires since they handle much better in snow..

The current tire size I run is 225/60-16.. I think the wheel width is 8 inches.. so how skinny can I go (width wise) on the tires? 205s? 195s?

Another random question.. do they make roof racks for our cars? Is it possible to get a roof rack that doesn't scratch your paint and what not, to hold ski's?

Skinnier tires perform better in wet and snow conditions.. more weight per square inch of the tire translates to more friction per square inch of the tire in rain and snow..
