You talking about running the 2 12s off the amp for the stock sub?

You have 2 really nice subs and you want to use the stock amp to run them?? Stop playing man. Just bypass the factory amp with an aftermarket one. Trust me,, you will be MUCH happier.

It's not a case of being happier... it's a case of not gonna happen, if you're saying that you want to power aftermarket subs with a stock amp.

The problem is price. I have 0$ and the subs were free. So at this point im wondering if they will even work. They are currently hooked up to my surround sound in my room and they hit pretty hard. Just wondering if its even possible, if it is, Im going to disconnect the ten and hookup the two twelves. I heard a rumor that its possible to die trying to do this, thats my main concern. Is that true or am I safe?

Possible to die by doing that? Sounds like someone is messing with you.

To answer the question,,NO. You cannot run the aftermarkets with the stock amp. Too underpowered and just not gonna happen. Be patient, save a little, check some of the pawn shops(I have found some real good deals there) etc. Nothing wrong with bargain hunting when you are on a budget(as most of us are)

you can do it. you'll have to make sure to present a 4 ohm load to the amp though. i dont know which diamonds you have, but if they are dual voice coil, you will most likely be able to reconfigure them to show a 4 0hm load. the stock amp is probably 50w, i dont' know, but it will work fine. it won't be that loud, maybe a bit louder than stock as you have much more cone area, but it will work. just don't expect much.
ebay is great for audio equipment, you just have to know what to look for. stay away from circuit city for audio; there' smuch better stuff for less money available. your diamonds are fine. save up for a good amp.

Doesn't it damage subs if you underpower them?

yep.......subs can just as easily be damaged by being underpowered as they can by being overpowered.

actually that's an urban myth. i have several friends heavily into sound competiions who know as much about electronics and audio as we do about cars and engines. they told me the speaker will play all day long with a distorted 50w. i always thought that underpowering them would damage them too, but they proved me wrong one day.

even if distortion did kill subs, this guy will be fine as long as he plays within the limits of the amp...

I think the stock sub amp is more like 30w.

Even though it's possible, I wouldn't bother hooking up those subs with the stock amp for the slight murmur of bass that will come through. Maybe you could sell one sub and buy a cheap amp with the proceeds. Otherwise save up for an amp.
