Default What parts to replace in AC system on a '90 LS400?

The AC compressor in my LS400 is locked up solid. I've been talking to a local AC specialist who does auto's but has never worked on a Lexus (they aren't common in these parts). He's coming up with a total of $1700 including labor to replace the AC compressor, parts he usually replaces during the job, and AC refill. Is that a crazy price? Exactly what parts are usually changed along with the compressor? Is the "speed sensor" on the compressor something that can be swapped to the new compressor instead of buying a new one?

New Compressior If Yours Is Fubar

Ac Dryer -$80 Maybe

Thats About It Theres One More Valve But I Would Pay More Than $1k Installed

Compressor Is $400-500 Depending On Which One Even Cheap If You Get A Remaned Unit

Evac The System And Refill $100-150

So About $500-700 In Parts And $200 In Labor Which Bring You Around $900

Does The A/c Botton On The Climate Control Have A Flashing Green Light While Its Turned On ?

The AC light did blink and looking at the compressor with the engine running shows the compressor itself isn't spinning even though the clutch is engaged. After it cooled off (yes...I was dumb enough to touch the clutch after it slipped, with the engine off) the pump felt completely locked up and wouldn't spin at all.

I unplugged the AC compressor power connection so the clutch didn't burn up further, and to keep from damaging the drive belt.

So I should count on the compressor itself and the dryer. The other valves and such should be fine?

I READ IN THE OWNERS MANUAL OF MY 1991 LEXUS THAT IF THE A/C BOTTON ON THE CLIMATE CONTROL PANEL FLASHES THAN THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE A/C COMPRESSOR

THE ONE ON MY CAR STAYS ON CONSTANT SO I HOPE I CAN JUST GET AWAY WITH A RECHARGE OR REPLCEMENT FROM ONE OF THE HOSES

IN ANY EVENT IS SOUNDS LIKE YOUR COMPRESSOR HAS HAD IS EXPECIALY IF YOU HAVE OVER 300k ON YOUR CAR

THE MAIN THINGS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED ARE THE

COMPRESSOR
THE A/C DRYER
AND MAYBE VALVE DON'T KNOW ON THIS LEXUS JUST BOUGHT MINE RECENTLY

Are all of the Denso 10PA20C compressors identical? I'm seeing them on Amazon brand new, not rebuilt, for $300. The local Toyota shop wanted to charge $750 for the compressor plus $250 for the clutch.

So...a compressor and dryer are the only components I should have to worry about? Need to know before dropping the cabbage.

I Would Follow Ttyr2 Advice And Get The Parts Off Amazon And Get Some One To Put In The Car. You Will Probably Need A New Dryer Check Around With Different Ac Shops And Get Different Estimates And They Will Recommend The New Freon R134 If You Can Find A Place That Has R12 The Old Stuff It Works Better And Get Much Colder .shop Around And Tell Each Shop The Last Shop Would Do It For This Amount They Will Usually Come Down To That Price Just Keep Droping The Price Till They Say Uncle.
