That's what I do as well. That's what the owner's manual suggests.

I have been running synthetic oil mobil one since 1983 started in my cressida and ran it 438.000 miles changing the mobil one every 10k now I have a 91 lexus and I have been running mobil one since 40,000 miles now has 192,000 miles and runs great. I am now switching to the new 15000 mile mobil one oil and change it every 15,000 miles. By the way BMW Mercedes and such cars now change oil and the all use mobil one at 15,000 miles as a standard change. The only reason some people still change oil at 3000 miles it is the way they started when they first bought the car. Todays dino oil can go 7500 miles and synthetic can go 15,000 miles no problems. I also use the mobil one synthetic TRANSMISSION FLUID IN MY TRANS AND IT WORKS GREAT I ALSO USE THE SYNTHETIC TRANSMISSION FLUID IN MY POWER STEERING CHANING IT EVERY 30,000 MILES AND I CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION OIL AT AROUND 30-40,000 MILES. BMW Cadilac Mercedes and such cars go 100,000 miles on mobil one transmission fluid I also use the mobil one 75-90 in my cars rear end drive on the old lexus the new lexus needs special fluid for limited slip rear ends I understand that a company called Redline makes a 75-90 weight gl5 for limited rear end cars it is also synthetic gear oil. For the later lexus that require type 4 trans fluid I am using Ams oil synthetic fluid in a 2006 camary which also uses the same trans fluid as the late model lexus.

I think its a matter of opinion really for all drivers, but its recommended to change it ever 4-6k miles. It really depends how dirty your oil gets. You should examine your oil at every change (whether you do it yourself or have someone do it for you) and see if it comes out black, or comes out clear. Mine usually comes out black at around 5k

If you want to run synthetic oil go for it it is a lot better that dino oil as far as how often to change it Mercedes BMW Porche and all high end cars now are going 15,000 miles between oil changes just call the dealers and they will up date on this. Mobil now makes a new snythetic oil that goes 15,000 miles again the cheapest place to get it is wallmart. Wallmart also changes oil and is also the cheapest when it comes to using mobil one synthetic.

that's true, but walmart has the worst waiting times as far as oil change service is concerned...the lines are very very long

My car (97 Gen II with 96+k miles) only gets Mobil 1 5-30; I change it every 15 k or so and the oil that I remove shows hardly any color change.

I also put the discarded oil in the oil tank for the house furnace -- never a problem, as the dirt (if any) falls to the bottom and the oil is diluted by the fuel oil in the tank. I've done this for years.

I switched from synthetic back to dino. The benefit of synthetic is nil to anyone but pro racers. LS will go forever on cheap dino oil with regular changes. Keeping synth. oil in for more than 5K miles may do more harm than good.
Also, I just read an article in the bike mag, which talked about fuel mileage with synth vs. dino oil. They stated that synth reduces friction by 3% or less vs dino. This improvement is not enough to affect fuel economy in any meaningful way.
So, everyone who used synth, including myself until recently, have succumb to the hype and paying extra just to feel good. That's all there is to it.
Stop wasting your money. Oil companies have invested in a damn good ad campaign, but we should use critical thinking in making decisions. I did and that's why I switched back.

I have been running mobil one since 1986 in my toyota's and pushed the engine and trans also using synthetic trans fluid 450,000 miles on same engine and trans. I now use the new mobil one 15,000 mile extended oil and change it around 12,000 to 15,000 miles no problems. BMW Mercedes and all high end cars use mobil one regular and go 15,000 miles between changes including Porche and Corvette etc. If you drive a lot of short trips you can change it every 7-9,000 miles.

Its really a matter of preference. I personally change my oils every 8,000 miles with Mobil 1 Ep.

I'm a bit surprised that people actually go 10K without changing. The oil may last but oil filters still break down at regular intervals (way under 10K). maybe I don't know anything about luxury cars :P

coming from turbo cars i only run synthetic.... dino oil can coke on bearings and ruin a turbo.... i'd rather not chance it... i run the same oil in the lexus as i do in my buick, easy to get the big 5qt jugs of mobil1 and keep them around when i need some more.

it has been proven, by many independant testing companies( oh god please dont make me cite my sources, ive read so many articles over the years)

that if you dont start with synthetic, you dont get the benifit of synthetic

on a fresh engine build, first oil is regular **** bag oil. 500 miles, use synthetic, and you get the full benefits.
Unless you do that, no reason to switch, its all media hype

Go ahead and put in mobil one 5w-30 and use the new mobil syn extended which can go to 15,000 miles or one year. All the high priced cars are now doing it BMW Mercedes porche and all high performace cars go 15,000 and even more up to 17,000 miles. Make sure to check your oil level every 5,000 miles due to lexus will consume some oil around 5,000 miles usually about a half a quart and syn oil will make a lexus run clean cool and help pass smog test it keeps the engine so clean. I have been told the new LS460 runs mobil one not sure if this is correct but this is the word on the steet.
