Default Does the clear plastic shifter cover come off?

When I bought my car the only place that showed wear was the plastic that covers the shift gate letters and numbers. Can that piece come off somehow without breaking it? If so I have been taught that you can sand down plastics smooth and then polish them to a bright shiny finish. Anyone tried this before?

Should be about the same for your year Lexus.

As for the polisher, there is a 3 stage buffing system you can use. I forget the name of it though...Pure?
