Can I fit 245/50/16 tires in the wheel well?
Hey everyone, this is my first real post on this new forum. I just bought a 1995 LS 400 down in Denver last weekend. I am loving this car to death, soooo quiet and smooth. All I was wondering is if a 245 tire will fit? It seems that it might be too wide for the front. Anyone here have this size on their car? BTW, this would be for the stock wheels, not aftermarket with a different offset.

Well, your LS will certainly be substantially less "quite and smooth" with 245 tires but yes they will fit in the wheel well. (Been there, done that, went back.) In fact, Toyo sells 245/55-16 tires that will fit on the OEM 16 inch wheels and keep the speedometer completely accurate. Toyo used photos of the LS400 with this tire size on OEM 16" wheels in advertisements in the late 90s.
245/50-16 tires, however, will introduce a speedometer error of substantially more than the 3% limit which installers recommend. But it's your dime.

I have 235/60-16, and they fit well. Actually better than the OEM size, because they fill the wheel well better by reducing the ugly gap. Car is smoother, and gas mileage is probably up due to slightly increased wheel diameter.
What you are trying will actually increase the wheel well gap slightly.

when in doubt, check a tire/wheel calculator. You will be able to measure the rolling diameter difference of the new tire setup. +-%5 is a "safe" range. Also, understand what you are doing when going smaller or larger diameter setup. As mentioned, smaller diameter will increase wheel gap (distance from tire to fender lip) & increase acceleration slightly while lowering top speed. larger diameter will decrease the wheel gap & increase top speed while decreasing acceleration slightly.
fwiw, I'm running 235/40 & 265/35 in 18".
