Default How to make your Lexus last longer

I am passing along some information I got from guys who make oil, I started using synthetic oil back in 1986 in my toyota cressida and when I bought my 91 lexus I also ran the mobil one synthetic oil in the engine and the synthetic ATF automatic transmission fluid in both the transmission and power steering. with almost 200k miles the trans and motor and power steering are still working prefect. I did put a transmission cooler and a power steering cooler due to the hot weather in California and the bumper to bumper traffic. One of my friends turned his 90 lexus in with 568,000 miles same motor and trans and he also used mobil one fluids. For your fine people who live in the cold climate and desert climate synthetic oil will protect your motor trans and power steering far better that regular oil. Since 1997 porche BMW mercedes and some of the top high performace cars from Germany and other countries have been using mobil one as factory fill and changing the oil at 15,000 miles.
I change my trans oil at 30,000 and most people say change the trans synthetic oil at 100,000. Its better to change at 30k. Another company making synthetic trans oil that will work the same as Type 4 that lexus uses in ams oil just look on google for the name. I am using it in my 06 camry and their engine oil and getting 35mph on the open road I was really suprised when this happend I also use the red line GL5 in lexus rear end for long wear changing it every 40k. The type 4 trans fluid lexus sells in a semi synthetic fluid that works well just change it every 30k happy motoring . use Toyota antifreeze with distilled water 50/50 mix my hoses and radiator are 17 years old and still look new always drain the block and radiator at the same time.

Thanks for the Mobil1 Syn post. I have used it for years and totally agree. I change my engine oil once per year and now have nearly 190k miles. The car is solid and still drives as good as the day I bought it. I have friends who use Amsoil and it has been brought up here many times. While I don't use it I am sure it is a quality product. Mobil1 Syn is still my number one choice and will remain so.

While I can't comment on the ATF I can see the relevance (I still use Toyota ATF).

Mobil 1 synthetic was all I ever run in all of my past vehicles. I had a 92 Camry that I ran up to 598K when I turned it in and bought an Expedition in 2000. I current LS was also put on the Mobil 1 synthetics, 2 hours after I bought the car and it has always done me great. Just recently, my car was sqitched over to Amsoil (Oil, tranny, gear, etc.,, wrote nearest distributor to get the stuff since it is hardly sold here in Md) and I like it even better than the Mobil1. Car runs super quiet, sometimes I have to check to see if it is still running, shifts smooth, etc. This stuff is a great replacement for fluids in your car. Even a Lexus tech(friend of mine) has recommended this stuff as well, and runs it in his own car. The ONLY setback that I have with using the AMSOIL products is that this stuff is extremely expensive, but IMO well worth the cost.

I have not had any experiences with Amsoil or Royal Purple, though I have heard from a lot of people they are top notch oil.

I feel safer using something I have used for a while and thats Mobil1 Syn.

And for the trans oil, I just use the recommended Toyota type IV trans fluid which I plan to change every 30k. So no complaints from me, trans is shifting very smoothly.
