Default taillamp failure-how to

my 99 LS has an unlit bulb in the taillights above the back seat, (inside the car)
my local mechanic crawled in the trunk, but said he could not fathom how to access it. I looked myself, can't see any obvious place to get at those bulbs?

Anybody know how?

dont u have to remove some of the trunk trimming in order to get to the lights? thats how it works for my 93 and for other cars, did u try taking apart the trimming and looking under there?

thats true for the first gen. Probably true for the 2nd gen too. Just remove those fasteners and you should see some screws. I remember the first time i changed the bulbs in my car i was seriously confused.

Here is a thead on another furum where I posted information about replacing the bulbs in the high mounted brake light on the 98-00 LS400 -- quite different from the gen 1 I had: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...=25937&hl=high
