Default Valve Clatter on 4.0L?

Ok so as I am becoming more familiar with JDM engines Im realizing they seem to make different noises from what Im used to with domestic, and european motors. It seems they each have their own caucaphony as it were...

Both my moms 1999 3.2TL Acura and this Lexus seem to make what I feel is an abnormal amount of valve ticking noises.

The Honda's have something called Hydraulic lash adjusters, which over time need to be corrected when the motor starts making noise, and from what little I have been able to find on the 4.0L LS motor, valve clatter on the gen 1 motors (90-94) can be a sign that the valves are badly out of adjustment but I cant find anything on 95+??

Its not that noisy, but its not the lexus level of quiet I would expect either. Im assuming I probably need to have the valves adjusted... is it possible for this happen at 66000 miles? I know my moms car has had Valve noise since she bought it at 73k miles.

Is NOT having the valves adjusted asking for trouble, or will the car continue to operate ok the way it is? I checked the oil for sludge and at least with the basic check I did at the dispstick and inside the crank-case fill hole I didnt see anything of consequence.

In another bit of irony, both this car and the Acura were sold new in Palm Beach, and a friend had noted to me that cars from there undergo alot of stop and go driving even at low mileages. I dont think its of any consequence, but I thought it bring it up anyway.

Other than this I absolutely love the car.

TIA,
Ian.

Hmm, I suppose this is not as common as I thought. I guess I will reply to the thread I found on the other board. May be relegated to Gen 1's.

It is not valve lash you are hearing it is the injectors ticking. Every single last Toyota made is like that . As they age the injectors get louder and louder.

more than likely you are hearing the injectors ticking. the valves normally dont' have to be adjusted until 120k and even then most of them that i've seen don't need anything.
