Question Lexus LS400 1990 Door speakers

I got this car recently as a gift. However only the tweeters had any sound coming out of them when I turned on the stereo.

So I bought a Nakamichi amplifier from ebay and replaced my old one in my trunk. Now my woofer in the trunk works! Hurray!

However the four door speakers still do not work. I might take it into a car shop. I thought the amplifier in the trunk powered the four 5" door speakers as well.

Any idea what the problem now could be? Will I have to replace my head unit? Your help and expertise is greatly appreciated!

it's kind of weird that all 4 are completely dead. get a known good speaker and temporarily hook it up to a door and see if it works. if not, you probably have an output problem with your head unit. mine was like that...

Hmm good point, the only thing is that I'm scared to try and open up the entire door to try and get to the speaker. The door almost seems like it has no visible screws and maybe hella complicated to remove.

The door panel is rather easy to remove actually, just be prepared to get some new clips from your local toyota dealer.

The tutorial is on lexls.com

I don't think you'll need to get new clips. I've taken my door panels off at least 2-3 times and I've reused the clips without any problems so far.

FYI, the factory speakers are 4".

the door panel is actually pretty easy... try working on german car door panels!
you have to pull the master window switch up on one end, then just slide it forward and unplug it. there's a screw under there. removed the trim surriounding the door release handle, screw beneath. screws under door pocket at edge of panel. i think there may be a couple more up on the sides of the panel too. on more big screw on rear end of arm rest on the bottom.
then just pop the retainers out and lift up and out.
the retainers should be fine.
