Default Darn Racoons!

I was driving home tonight from a friend's house when I hit a VERY big racoon. I was probably going around 60mph when it ran out in front of my car. I swerved, but it kept running, so I hit it, very hard. It ripped apart the plastic pan that goes under the engine, and now that's dragging on the ground. It also tore up the front bumper a bit. I'm pretty pissed, as the car was totally perfect before this accident. Stupid animals.

Sorry to hear...just had the bumper replaced on mine, ~$1,200.

A thread I'm reading on a different forum, they hit a skunk. That smell has penetrated the whole car and it looks like they will sell it.

Yeah, it could have been a lot worse. At least there is no mechanical damage. I'll probably end up just removing the broken plastic pan and driving the car as it is because i'm too poor to fix it.

Ouch, sorry man. I hit a huge oppossum (size of a 8 month old kid) in my acura legend but luckily it just scuffed the plastic and made it a little bloody.

1200 for a new bumper? holy *****.

Sorry to hear about your ride man. You might be able to pull that pumper up temporarily from behind just so its not that noticeable.

I tell you...the absolute dumbest animal has to be the deer. Here in KY, deer are everywhere, sometimes just walking down the road WITH the traffic.

a raccoon did that??? Dang. You might have to rig somthing. I have an idea for you! Take the bumper off and get a little fiberglass cloth and resin. That stuff sets harder than bondo. Your bumber might still be cracked but at least it'd be intact. Most people wont even see it. Is your engine undercover still intact?

White ls400's are the most popular (from what i can tell) so maybe you can find a junkyard bumber in white! keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks for the sympathy, guys. I actually grew up in the Mid-West where there are deer everywhere, and I never had a run-in with one. Then I moved to So-Cal, and within 2 years I hit a BIG deer and totalled my car doing it. I actually got it on video too, long story there. Anyway, yeah, I have quite a reputation for hitting animals now thanks to this stupid creature.

The fiberglass resin method of fixing the bumper was suggested to me by a few people, so I may try that. I can get ahold of replacement aftermarket bumpers through my work too for pretty cheap, so I may go that route. We'll see.

Ouch! That sucks man. If you can get a new/used bumper for cheap, I would just go that route! Fiberglass sucks! I was just pulling all these fiberglass shards out of my hand just from picking up an enclosure I made months ago.

Insurance paid for it, I had quotes up to $1,600 with the average being $1,350.

OEM (new) bumper from Toyota $481
Cover moulding $130
Impact cushion $51
Paint materials $135
CA sales tax
Labor 8.0 hours

A salvage or repaired bumper would save $$$ and if lucky, one in the same color combo for a bolt up replacement.

...'coon meat is the best...2nd to squirrel!

Seriously, that sucks dude. I would source a bumper from Pick A Part, dirt cheap compared to other places.
