If i have a bad cat converter could that be causing me to get horrible mpg cause my car lately has been pretty bad, also is bay one considered the cat underneath the drivers side or the passenger side any help would be appreciated.

to the first part, yes but it will be VERY obvious, ie it will be red hot after the car has been run a while and you WILL get a CEL.

When i took it in to get checked, they hooked it up to a scanner and it said that the cat converter under bay 1 was bad, the mechanic told me it has 2 bays one under the driver and one under the passenger, i was just wondering if bay 1 means under the driver side.

no idea about sides, i would image that its drivers side though.
