Default Factory Xenon color difference

Hello Everyone,

I just replaced both of my factory HID headlight bulbs with new ones at the same time. The bulbs are the same brand and have run the same amount of time. The right headlight is brighter and a different shade than the left headlight.

Leading up to my bulb replacement the color difference was also present in the old bulbs and quite noticeable in the light, my drivers side bulb failed first (dimmer of the two).

Has anyone heard of this or explain what is going on?

'98 LS w/ factory HID

Thank you!

Hello,

Thank you for the input, I'll have to do some checking to see where I can get one. The usual suspects for parts don't list the ballast.

Thanks.

Hello,

For anyone finding this via search later. The dealer price (no discounts taken into account) for the "Computer, Light Control" i.e. ballast was $960 for one.

Attached is a picture with the model number for a '98 LS400 with factory HID.

ballast from any lexus will work.

hidexpert.com sells mainly denso/lexus based HID kits and can prolly get u a single ballast pretty cheap.

or search ebay for Lexus denso ballast and ul get quite a few results.

Replacing a factory ballast is one pain in the ***. You have to take the whole assembly out of the car and open up the harness to separate the plug from the wires in order to pull the old one off , you then have to to do the same with the new one to insert it to get it in.

Are there any other signs of a ballast going out than the color
difference between sides? Mine are different shade too but
it think the first owner might have replaced just one
bulb. Should I be worried ?

swap the bulb from each side to the other to know if it is a ballast or bulb issue.
