Default Max Tire Size LS400

I'm trying to find out what the maximum tire size that can be used on a
1991 LS400.
Stock is 205 65 r15
I am currently using 225 60 R15
The tire company says I can go to 235 width, but wanted to find out if anyone knows if I can use 245 60 or 65 R15.

Thanks
Aaron

Toyo marketed 245/55-16 tires that were targeted at owners of LS400s with 16 inch wheels. Some of their ads had a photo of an LS400 with them installed on standard 16" wheels I don't know what year the larger Toyos became available but I first noticed them on 98 LS400s.

I don't know about the 90-92 LS with 15 inch wheels. I also tried 225/60-15 on my 90 LS -- the braking was vastly better than with the skinny 205/65-15 tires. The nice thing about the 225/16-15 tires is that they kept the speedometer perfectly accurate. But my wife complained about the increased ride harshness so I went back to OEM when the 225/60-15 tires wore out. Personally, I think the OEM 205/65-15 tires are unsafe because of the huge stopping distances. The early LS400 with the skinny tires had just about the longest stopping distance of any car tested by Road & Track during those years.

In the U.K., the 98-00 LS was available directly from Lexus dealers with optional 17" wheels, 245/50-17 tires and shorter springs.

The later LS400's with OEM 16" wheels had suspension revisions to cope with the wider 225 tires. My 90 LS with 225 tires rode really rough but my 00 LS with OEM 225 tires has a very soft ride.

to have comparable tire diameters you could use:

245/55-15
265/50-15
295/40-15

im not sure if these will clear all the suspension components (i.e. you might need a spacer) & i dont think they will fit on the width of your stock rim.

here is handy little program to match aftermarket rims & tires to the correct diameter and circumference
