Default Cheap speaker fix for those with dead speakers...

...I succumbed to my cheapskate desires and got a pair of "Lightning Audio" 4" speakers to replace the dead and nearly dying front speakers. I am so surprised by the quality of the speakers over the older OEM Nakamichis, that I'm going to buy another pair next week for the rears...rite now, I'm strapped for cash. (I'm lower middle class, but drive a Lexus...must be the gas prices.)

I got these at my local WalMart for $26 and some change (cuz of sales tax), but they are on WalMart's website as well. 1 year warranty from MFR.

They drop right into the box, but you need to re-drill 3 out of the 4 holes to hold the speaker down. Lightning Audio is supposedly a division of Rockford Fosgate, based on the documentation included with the speakers.

Definite improvement over factory dead and dying Nakamichis, and half the cost of the Infinity Reference 4021i.

I'll post some pics of the install after I re-size them.

Captain Sulu would be proud. One thing - you should seal up the gaps between the speaker and the enclosure. That way you'll get much better bass response.

Have you turned it up a few times? Any distortion? Looks good, and what a deal. $26- Barely can get me 1/2 a tank of gas. Dang

I've cranked it up full blast several times, I haven't heard any distortions except from the remaining Nakamichi speaker in the rear left...I get paid weekly, so I'm going to fetch another pair and see how it all works out, but definitely not a bad price.

I know exactly what you mean about the gas prices...friggin ridiculous, but I refuse to put anything less than 91 in my tank. It's about 3.29 a gallon where I'm at (South Riverside County/North San Diego County).

$26 for a pair and they STILL sound good? Are yours amped? If they sound good I'd rather go cheap and get these instead of MB Quarts. Haha

I guess I could always get a pair and turn them up and if I don't like them, return them. Worth a shot for the money. What's the RMS for those speakers?

You might get a little more bass output by sealing it, but this will cause the speaker to distort at higher volumes, and muddy out the mid-range. I actually took off the entire back panel to make it a free-air and my mids sound much better. I let my sub take care of those low notes, I don't run anything lower than 100hz to my front speakers.

Its a good cheap fix.. but for just a little bit more you could of had a much better sounding set of speakers.

Here's the specs on it...and this is definitely not for everyone, hence the title "cheap". I was really thinking about getting the Infinity's, but these will suit me for right now. When you only have sound working in half your car, you'll take whatever you can get, but as I stated, I'm really surprised from the sound quality given the price.

If they sound better than the NAK speakers it is replacing than that is all that matters. For that price I think it is a good buy. Honestly, I don't think the NAK system sounded all that great anyway. It sounds good and okay, but nothing special. I have the NAK system in my 99 LS and personally I think the premium system in my 04 RX330 sounded better and definitely had better imagine. The LS does have more bass though as the RX330 doesn't have a subwoofer even with the ML. I'm not in the process of installing a complete A/V system in my LS so I NAK system is coming out.
