I was told by a mechanic the struts were bad and they were, only problem now is the rattling sound is worse, what could it be. I was told it could be upper and lower control arm bushings. I had oem struts put on.

With older cars in need of suspension work, you've got to start somewhere and renew the parts that are worn. As you do so, sometimes the noises get worse as you zero in on the problem. Your mechanic should have checked the entire front suspension, it was staring him right in the face as he was doing this repair! If he was a good mechanic he would have checked all and advised you before starting, because renewing the front end on an old LS400 can be very expensive. Upper control arms are $350 a piece! If you knew the whole picture beforehand you could have made an informed decision before moving ahead. Your mechanic has decided rather than possibly scare you away with a big upfront number he'll keep you wiggling on the hook. Did he replace the spring cushions? Shock mount? If the strut cushions are worn they squeak, if they are broken they'll knock on braking. Go to Park Place Lexus and look at their parts illustrations but they'll only do you some good if you decide to start wrenching yourself.
