Default problem when changing spark plug wires

hi guys..

I changed my spark plugs, caps, and rotors this morning. Everything went well, except for one important detail.

I snapped the plastic cap off the ignition wire retainer. I attached a picture with a box around the part that was broken. Those parts are brittle!

Anyways, what are my options now? I called the dealership. One said that the cap is only part of the iginition coil ( which as $120 ).. The other dealership said that little cap was $29.

thanks..

Jeff

The boot on the ignition wire came off right? If you changed the caps, rotors and plugs, might as well do the wires too. If the boot is that brittle, it's a sure probability the wires are due for a change. Factory change is 120K miles but they probably deteriorate before then.

If it is the coil pack outlet...I think you are left with having to buy a coil pack.

Yes, the boot came off just fine, it was the plastic retainer cap which I snapped. Kinda of shocking that they would put a cheap/brittle plastic piece on such an important piece of the ignition system.

I am off to the stealer to buy the @#$% $29 plastic piece. Maybe I'll treat small plastic pieces with more respect now..

quick update.. I went to the dealer and after looking more closely at the part, they initially quoted me for the wrong part.

The parts are about $8 each. Much more reasonable for a plastic cap. Bad news is that they have to order it ( no dealerships have it locally), so I'll be car less for a few days.

If you did replace the Wires, you could carefully pry off the snapper and place it on the new one easily.

I'm glad I found this topic. I did the same thing last night. Both of the caps basically shattered when I tried ot remove them. i could do the zip tie thing but will most likely go ahead and buy the caps for piece of mond if nothing else.

I really appreciate you posting the part numbers.

your're welcome gunnut. I was hoping that my info would be helpful to somebody and your response was much more constructive than turbosix and lorenzo816's responses.

I ordered the two caps today from a Toyota Dealership. Both caps $7.60 out the door.
Well worth it in my opinion.
