Please bear with my dumbass while I try to articulate my problem. Earlier today my 94 LS (180,000 mi) started running hot after a 15 minute drive ... it also was running very rough, shuddering. I got it home and water was pouring out from somewhere but I couldn't tell where because of the cover under the front end. I was thinking busted hose, water pump or maybe the thermostat stuck and water bubbled over when it overheated. Could happen, right? Replaced t-stat and no leaks but rattling from up front sounds suspiciously like a water pump bearing. I've replaced water pumps on several cars but this ain't my '81 Corolla. The car is running very rough and shuddering as if a plug or two or distributor was bad. I haven't pulled plugs or checked the distributors .... could something have gotten wet and caused the rough engine response?
I've had this car for about three years and had a 90 LS for five years and 212,000 when my wife totaled it. Talk about grounds for divorce!
I've picked up a ton of help ranging from throttle body cleaning to hood shock replacements while lurking in the shadows on this site.

WHen my pump/bracket went out it caused no power loss but did idle like hell and shut off twice at two stop lights.


Might be the fan bracket. IF so you might as well replace everything I did too.

If it helps, here was my Fan Bracket Support experience: 94 LS400

When the bearing in my Fan Bracket support split lengthwise there was no mistaking that I had a major malfunction & was not going anywhere without a tow truck.

It was a cacophony of mechanical mayhem. I thought I had finally lost my Timing Belt, but amazingly the belt remained in one piece even after this part failed & 172,000 accumulated miles.

I had rolled the odds & had a TB "kit" as it were packed in a duffle in my trunk. The only part a I had not counted on replacing & did not have in my "kit" was the fan bracket support, Toyota part # 16307-50011.

It turned out to be a good thing that I had pre assembled everything on my list & was able to buy High quality parts at competitve prices & was not forced to use a dealer due to time constraints.

It was the water pump ... and the distributors ... and the timing belt. I removed the plastic? covers to get a better look at the leak and it was indeed the water pump. Water blew up into the distributors, soaked the timing and drive belts. Timing was way out of wack and since the TB had over 70k on it I had it towed to a local Toyota/Lexus indie, opened an artery and told them to do all the stuff you should do when replacing a WP and TB. I'm aware that the TB is good for 90k but at this point I'm thinking I'm good to go until I move into a 430 in a couple of years. If I wasn't so damn busy I'd have taken a long weekend and done it myself but it was easier to find $1000 than it was to free up two or three days. Thanks for the advice anyway guys .... this is a great site
