Default LCD and hood strut question couldnt find it with search...

Hey guys Ive read about these problems before and i thought it was on here but cant find it....I fixed the problem on the radio in a 97 es300 by ordering just the LCD crystal for 50 or 60 bucks from Pioeneer I think. Does a similar part exist for 96 Nak displays? I figured I would have been able to find previous thread but I cant.
Also there is a long time poster who had a black ls 90 or 91 that had a long list of mods and DIY's including buying some specific hod struts from checker or autozone and modding it to work as hood struts for LS. Any suggestions or input for either problem

For the hood struts, you can buy ones that will fit specifically for your model LS off eBay, but I think you can get generic ones for much cheaper and make them fit. Check out this website http://www.retrodrive.net

In regards to the LCD, I'm not sure about the 96, but for the first gen, there is a guy selling LCDs for $80 on eBay. I acutally met with him in person (he's from my area) and purchased an lcd. I haven't had time to install it because it requires some extensive soldering and I'm lazy... but I will post pics when I do, hopefully this weekend.

fcc id is unique to ur car. i think there were like 15-20 different fcc ids for the 95-96 ls and the 97 should be the same.

u need the original fob.

The 95-97 LS use FCC ID# HYQWDT-C but make sure before buying.
The SC's also use this same transmitter.

My '97, production date 6/97 uses this remote.

pure drifter...If I understand this correctly only those who own an ls with a working fob can buy an additional fob and program it? Someone who bought a used lex with just regular keys will never be able to use keyless entry?

the alarm in the car is set to a certain frequency on which the remote operates. Since u dont want 1 frequency for all the thousands of cars u make, u get multiple FCC-ids assigned to ur fobs, that way theres 10-15 different frequencies in addition to the actual encryption (however crude) inherent in the alarm system itself.

what u need is one of the key fobs that came with the car so u know the FCC ID u need in a new remote.

if u dont ahve one, then im assuming u dont have the master key, in which case u could be looking at major ($300+) expense to have the whole alarm radio replaced.

if u do have the master key but just want the FCC id then try calling up ur local dealer and give him ur VIN and see if hel look up ur FCC id for you.

I bought some hood struts off of ebay, fit perfectly and easy to install. I also bought a new key on ebay and it required a master to program the new one but it is working great, no issues.
