Default 1990 LS400 Nakamichi - dead speakers

My father's stereo is having problems, it seems.

Only the right-rear speaker and sub work.

This seems like an amp issue to me, but my dad said the wiring diagram shows the front speakers connected directly to the head unit.

Is there way to tell for certain where the problem lies?

it happens to some.dont worry.your not alone.the thing is its a pain to fix.why does biglexass say its a pain to fix is, because this...there are a number of things that it can be.over the years as were driveing in our prized cars we go over many bumps and a few of us crubs,(when your leaveing the bar)and it shakes things lose.so it could be some were in your wireing something has shaken lose.or there could be a short some were.or wire rot.also your amp can be bad too.know there a cuple of opionts to fix this horrible and terrifing problem.
1.(easy and cheap)turn the radio off.
2.(can be pricy but if you got the hookups like biglexass its cheap)go to a car audio shop and get them to redo your hole system.cost with product.600-1500 bucks.
3.(cheap about 50 bucks)get a lil stero with like 2 speakers and cd player at wall-mart abd there ya go.

hi,
in a period of a year, 3 out of 4 door speakers went in my 92. one would think it was an amp issue since kind of all at once, but alas, there were all bad speakers. replaced with sony xplodes- sound better and just little modding to fit. waiting for 4th and sub to go...

I missed this post, but I'm glad you posted it. Turns out, we had exactly the same issue. Another guy with a 1992 LS400 had the same issue, too.

Three out of the four speakers were dead (used a working speaker to test). We also thought the car phone had stopped working years ago, but it uses one of the formerly dead speakers.

We bought two pair Infinity Reference 4012i 4" 2-way Speakers from Crutchfield for $140 delivered (ordered 1:30p yesterday, standard shipping; arrived 11a today), and just finished installing them. OEM Naks are 4".

Car sounds awesome. Now for the tear in the driver's seat...and the cracked dash...and the scuffed steering wheel...and door dings. Eh, what do you want after 320,000 miles?
