iPOD Install
I have a radio and the cassette doesn't work, therefore the radioshack cassette adapter is useless. I switch to the Tape and it just switches back to the radio. The CD Changer is NO good also. The question is: Can I hijack the input from the CD changer and hardwire a 1/8 inch stereo hookup? My Prosche Boxster S, has a Becker radio that allowed an aux input. Since the CD is done, there has to be signal that is coming from the changer........right? THEN how do I remove the radio? I can get to the bottom screws, but the top are a problem. The irvents aren't cooperating. Thanks for any input partial or whole.

go for it
Yes, i installed an 1/8" jack in the nak system for an Ipod/DVD/PC. It works great, just select the CD player when you want to use the 1/8" jack. I even still use the factory CD changer. I just have a disc that is one 80 minute track of silence. As for installation, you just need the wiring diagram to figure out which pins to tap. You can download the wiring diagrams and repair manual here for a small subscription fee: https://techinfo.toyota.com/
In my LS I installed a jack in the front of the radio. In my wife's ES, I just ran a 1/8" cable to the inside of the console. The latter is much easier and possibly more convienent too.

P.S. The air vents are just held in with clips. Just tape a couple of flat head screwdrivers and pry on each side of the vent simultaneously. It should pop right out. You'll probably never get it just by pulling.

You can pull the air vents out pretty easily. Just push them all the way up or down, and then pull back. Here's a great tutorial:

Has anyone done an Ipod line in setup on a 98-00? I'm looking to keep my stock Nak system and cd changer but would like to add in a plug for the Ipod. Would rather do this than the FM modulator route.
Anyone have some pics or details on this?
Thanks,
Alan

This is exactly what I am looking for on my 99. Let me know if you figure out a solution for this.

The solution:
Alan & Broker -
I'm sure the method I vaguely described would work on any Lexus with a stock CD changer. So here is a more detailed explanation:
1. Obtain the wiring diagram and/or head unit pinout to find the signal wires to tap into. (https://techinfo.toyota.com/)
2. Go to radio shack and buy an 1/8" stereo extension cable (male to female), an 1/8" stereo calbe (male to male) and some wire taps.
3. Cut off the male end and place the bare ends in the taps (3 needed).
4. From the wiring diagram, tap the proper wires behind the head unit. This is the audio signal between the CD changer and head unit. You need to tap the L+, R+, and only one of the negatives since the 1/8" stereo jack does not have independent negatives.
5. Run the female end of the cable to a convenient location (under a seat or in the console).
6. Create a silent CD. I did this by opening the "sound recorder" that is included in every version of windows. Make sure you mute the microphone and line in inputs and hit record. Then you can copy that segment of recorded silence to make an 80 minute wave file. Using your CD buring software, create an audio CD with your new wave file.
7. Leave the silent CD in the changer. When you want to listen to the iPOD, just plug it in using the male to male cable and fire up the silent CD. Putting it on repeat mode will keep it from changing to the next disc.
I have done this in an LS and ES, and the sound quality is much better than a tape adaptor or FM modulator. It's the only way to go in my book.

What model LS have you done this in?
I guess the CD Player still works??
Just checked & he has a 91. This is one radical solution I must say, but hey if it works!!

Yes the CD changer still works like normal. I have done this in both a 91 LS400 and a 95 ES300. What's so radical about tapping into 3 wires? It's pretty simple really
