Default What is a 1990 ls 400 worth?

My mother passed away at 92 years old and I now have her 1990 LS400. The car has a little less than 17,000 miles on it. It is white with tan leather and the standard radio. The inside of the car looks like nobody has ever been in it. The outside has a little bit of parking lot rash. No door dings, but a small dent above the left rear wheel well and a few minor scratches on the front bumper.

I am considering selling it and trying to find out what it is really worth? I have a GX 470, GS 430, and a new IS 350, so I do not really need another car. Everyone in her neighborhood wants to buy it, but I hate getting involved with friends. (They get upset if they don't get it for free).

The question is: What is it really worth?

Thanks for taking the time to read this, Skip

this is a true gem....1990 LS400 with 17K.....unheard of.....but very believeable since a 92year old lady had it...I can understand why......sorry for your loss

Edmunds.com Used Car Appraiser values this car at $3,800

Anyway you look at it, it is a 17 year old car, but with 17K miles on it....

Sell this car privately.....you will get more......dont let a dealer screw you if you were to trade it in..

Maybe try to sell it on E-Bay

I am in San Diego...where is this car located.......

Skip,

Very sorry to hear about your mother.

Your best bet on setting some value is usually using one of the calculators on Edmunds and choosing (based on your description) best condition. You're not going to find many comparable cars to the condition hers is in, but you can also look to Autotrader for the best samples you can find and add some premium

Default Wow 17K

Sorry about you mother

I wouldn't go by the book-- Why ? since the car is over 16 years old (1990) the book starts to become worthless.. Just like a classic car, old vette etc. You can't really price it. Its worth what someone will pay-- I think with that many miles on it , I wouldn't sell it for less than 7-8k.. Its should look like new! You can't compare this car with a typical 1990 LS400 with close to 200k --
I don't know where you live but, you may want to try consignment with a used car dealer. Let him deal with all the lookers and time wasters and give him a %.

Good luck, it would be a good buy!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. My mother was the most devoted Lexus fan on the planet. She used to tell people that did not have a lot of money that a Lexus was the best investment that they would ever make. Almost never breaks, and the resale is fantastic. Cheaper than Ford or GM over the long haul.

She got tje car August 31, 1989 at South Bay Lexus in Torrance. It is #000516.

I would give the car away before I would let a used car dealer steal it from me!

This board, like the cars, is really a "Class Act."

Thanks again, Skip

You may have an interested buyer from San Diego.......me

I would definitely make the drive up to Torrance from San Diego in my 1992 LS400 ( 225k miles on it...& very dependable ) to look at what you got when you are serious about selling it...

You can private message with details if you want.

If i were you, I'd consider storing it... in 10 years its going to become a classic, and with that low of a mileage you'll have a gem on your hands.

I agree totaly man...these cars were the first of the luxary sedans for lexus and one of the best. I honestly think that this car is worth at least 10K. That's just me though, a business man. Sorry for the loss of your mom.

I agree. There probably is some sort of dealer or division of Lexus that may want to get a hold of that car. But, if you have to sell it, I'd say its definitly worth around 9-10K if not more. Don't end up letting this go for the same price as one with 100K miles.
