2001 LS Calipers on a 89-94 LS400
#3
I've just replaced my wheel bearings and front bush's , while I was at it I installed the later bigger backing plates off the Oct 94 to 00 315 mm LS400 , as you have to take the hub out to change the backing plates [ or cut it !! ] I thought I would do it now ready for the bigger disc's and calipers later .
Seeing as you can get semi loaded rebuilt 95 calipers for around $80.00 each I don't understand why people are spending $1000.00 plus on these upgrade pakages ??
The later model 4 piston alloy calipers bolt straight on as do the disc's and slotted disc's are not much either .
How much better could these very expensive calipers be and more to the point can you actually use it ??
Going from twin piston sliding calipers with 276 mm disc's to four piston opposed calipers with 315 mm disc's is surely enough , I would have thought , especially as an LS400 will never be a track car .

The 4 piston 95-00 are pretty light..I think someone on the GS forum had weighed these against the Supra 4-pots calipers...difference was maybe 1# lighter, so that might put the LS400 calipers at 8# something (unloaded). The 430 has a different mounting position so it would take some fabrication to adapt those to earlier generations.

Hello,
I am driving the stock 16'' from 93-94 model in Winter and an OEM Lexus 8x17'' wheel Offset 40 in summer.
So which is the biggest caliper that will fit under the 16'' wheels? Part #? Where can I get those calipers in the US?
Chris

for the 1st gen cars swapping over to the 2nd gen calipers, what else is needed?
do you just need the rotors and calipers? or can you use stock rotors?
oh, and are the rear rotors the same size for 1st and 2nd gen?
cuz both use single piston calipers, right?
