Default After market rim troubles

I purchased some 20 inch chrome rims with 245/35/20 tires and to my disappointment the brake calipers on my 2000 LS400 are stopping the rim from fitting. The rim has a +40 offset, so I thought I would be ok. Any suggestions?

Your problem is not your offset. Here is a quote from a similar post:

"offset has little to do with big brake fitment. our LS' along with most BBK equipped cars need a High Disk setup meaning that there is adequate room for the caliper behind the wheel. this is NOT AFFECTED by offset."

I have seen diagrams in other posts explaining this but could not find them for you. I am sure there is someone that can jump in and explain it in laymens terms for you.

Good luck.

lol, i got quoted
anyway, yea, def do a search in both the LS forum and more importantly, the Wheel and tire forum. if ur dead-set on these wheels then the only option you have is to get some 5mm-15mm spacers(depending how much u need) and see if it clears then.

Has anyone tried spacers to get a rim to fit? Any feedback on them? I looked at some from H&R but my center bore doesn't match the factory specs.

I had the same problem. My local speed shop ordered a dozen rims and none of them cleared the calipers (with the proper offset of course). The big brake calipers are definitely a challenge. In the end they tried to get me to use spacers and/or shave my calipers - absolutely not - I went with another rim after THEY told me they had success with prior LS models. The offset was 35mm (18 x 8.5). I would ditch the rims and go with others w/o spacers - keep your ride clean. Good luck bud.

So 98-00 LS400s have a big brake kit? or just fat calipers?

the 95+ LS400 gets big 4-piston calipers rivalling those found on the supra. stock.

I tried a local rim shop today and the Helo Spec wheels wouldn't even fit. There is a posting by lexodude on here, he has a 98 LS400 and those wheels fit fine so i would imagine there is a difference between the 98-00, everything I have is stock. They have done all my other cars so I trust them, but they have to research this one. Damn annoying, I just want some chrome for the summer!!!!!

Your shop is trying to sell you what they have on the shelf rather that what is properly speced for the car (kinda like Shaq shopping for a suit at FILENES)

Any how if they cant get you taken care of feel free to send a email and we'll try to help.

good luck
