traction control
'93 ls with nearly 200k. wife was driving when the trac light came on and stayed on. perhaps coincidentally, she was in a near accident where she had to swerve to avoid some guy coming into her lane. i was bracing for a visit to the dealer to get this diagnosed when i thought maybe the system got stuck between cycles, or something. i pulled over to the side of the highway, and stopped with two wheels on the pavement, and two on the sandy shoulder. i floored it. of course, one wheel spun while the one on the pavement did not. the light went off and has not come back on. i'm no mechanic, but i thought i'd pass this along for your consideration.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to get across.
All 90-94 LS' have an open diff therefore only one wheel will ever spin. Traction control limits the throttle cable and doesn't have anything to do with transferring power to another wheel. When it detects slip, it holds the throttle at low throttle until the slipping stops.

Well, I for one am going to try this. Can't get the light to go off, and you would not believe the dealer quote on something called the ABS system controller. Major $$. I am looking for other ideas in other posts as well, either that or figure out how to turn it off. I drive around town (mostly) at 30mph. Even with the light on all the time, I cannot determine any difference in handling, etc. Tho they said when it 'goes' that I would not be able to drive the car at all. Does this makes sense/ring true?

VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) was intro'd in 98 and was standard on both the LS and GS (and MAYBE the SC, cant remember). it is a combined Traction Control and Stability Control (slide prevention) system.
