long post, but I want an LS400
Three years ago I chose to buy a 1994 Acura Legend over a LS400 for 3 reasons
1. the Acura v6 would use less gas than the Lexus v8
2. front drive is better in the snow than rear drive, and
3. I was worried the maintenence/repairs on an LS400 would be brutal
The truth is I could then and still can afford the LS400, but I am a little on the frugal (cheap) side .... anh the time the Legend was about $ 8,000 less to buy.
The Acura has been a great car in every way, completely reliable, not too flashy (which I like) and gets me reasonable gas milage. I have never regretted buying this car, but I am thinking about a change and my desire for an LS400 is still very strong.
I know how to buy used cars, but I dont do any work on them myself. The extra gas it may use is minimal, and I can deal with buying 4 good now tires on wheels to get me through the winter. My only nagging concern which is stopping me from buying a 1995 or 1996 is the regular maintenence. I am sure I could find a LS400 with 60,000 - 70,000 miles in good condition, but am I going to get bummed out by the cost of keeping it ? Any comments from owners of 1995 -1996 LS400s would be very helpful
Thanks

About a week ago, I got a price quote for the 105K service for a friend's Acura TL from the same indie shop that did the 180K (90K) service on my 90 LS a few years ago. Both the 105K Acura service and the 90K LS400 service are similar in scope - both included timing belt and water pump replacement. The prices were very similar. The Acura 105K service was a little higher than I paid a few years ago for the 90K Lexus service but labor rates may have gone up a bit.

simple answer:
as long as you get a car with full maintainance records, you most likely will ONLY have to do regular factory maintainance. a couple things to look for in those is when/if the PS system was changed (and which pieces, hose, pump, rack, etc) and if it has the air suspension, if thats been serviced or replaced yet (the a/s system is VERY expensive to replace ~4500-5000 clams. your better off just finding a car without the air suspension.

well, 4 years later and I still have my Legend .... but have been checking out LS430s now because its too had to find a low mileage LS400 now. I actually prefer they styling of the LS400, but I've missed the boat on owning one.
Drove a 2005 with only 42,000 miles. Private sale, car is mint mint mint, and he wants $30,000 ...... seems a bit much - but it was nice to see another owner who actually appreciated the car and took grat care of it.

I have the money for the LS430 now, just wondering if $30,000 + 5% tax for a private sale 05 LS430 with 42,000 miles, without navi and air suspension - (which by the way I do NOT want ) is a fair market price. The car was mint, and I am fairly discriminating.
