Talking somebody stop me

I am 72; have a perfectly good 99LS with 67000 miles on it; I drive to the grocery store and the bank every day, once a month (in good weather) I might drive to Philadelphia, about 119 miles each way.

My wife has a 05 GX, she need it for business ;

I WANT A NEW 430 to drive about 15 miles a day on average. My justification is that the new ones are SAFER. !!!

Somebody please tell me I'm an idiot

No arguing the safety aspect.

If it enhances your driving pleasure to have a 430, buy it. That's part of enjoying life through experiences. Whether it's a mile or 100 miles a day. The only cavet would be if purchasing such a car drastically changes your financial security. Otherwise, wait a bit and get the new 460. This is a nice evolutionary step for the LS.

The current 430 is a fine car, in comparison to the upcoming 460, the 460 seems like so much more car.

You are not an idiot. If you want to get a new one and it will not be a strain on your finances, go for it. You are at a time where you should enjoy the fruits of the years of hard work. If you have children, they should be old enough by now to provide for themselves. So what if it is a 15 minute drive. Safety aside, if you think you will enjoy the drive better in the 430, I say go for it. As they say, you can't take it with you.

The temptations....the temptations.....Never argue with the temptations.....LOL!!!!!
I think that if that new car is what you will enjoy then go for it. I would, personally, wait the the LS 460...what a sweet ride that is. Just make sure that in buying the new car, out of temptation, that you dont strain your income and/or budget.

I am so appreciative of the first 3 responses; I thought everybody would be negative. (unless all three of you are salesmen for lexus.)

My budget wouldn"t notice, because I would be donating my entire social security check to this endeavor, every month.

leot,

Instead of a new new LS430, maybe look at a CPO 2004 LS430 that would have pretty much the same things and make the business case a little easier to swallow (and sell )

I'm in a bit of the same boat, although I just want a new car for more bells and whistles w/ new technology, plus because my 98 LS400 ride has gotten a bit harsh because of the suspension mods (I'm taking some steps to alleviate that as a more reasonable starting point rather than running right out to buy a new car)

This is what I'd do to. 04+ only though.

We have a 2005 LS430 and it is awesome. However i believe in the fall(or whenever its release is) we are going to get the LS460. take a look at the LS460 and see if you like the styling more than the 430. If you prefer the 430 better, go tommorrow and grab one. Otherwise if the 460 is more appealing, wait a little bit longer and get the 460.

leot is the kind of owner us pre-owned folk are looking for. In this case, buy the new one and keep me posted when you want the 460, 500... But seriosuly, if pre-owned isn't a deterrent, it is a nice way to lighten the initial purchase.

My pops no matter how much I talk to him will not buy a pre-owned, he has to have it new with warranty. I know CPO but to him it's not as good as "new". "I've heard horror stories."

The "problem" with going with he LS460 is that it is the first year of the new model. Even Lexus is not perfect and there are sure to be minor problems. Still, there will be buyers so pricing will be pretty high. Personally, with these issues, the LS460 is not worth the wait. I think he should enjoy the 04-06 LS430 now since that is what he was trying to justify in the first place. If he is still inclined, look at a later 460 or buy pre-owned at a later date. Even with the 460 being much improved, the 430 is still a really nice car.

Very true very true. Ok well then im just sending this out as a warning, be careful of the cupholder...my mother somehow has broken hers twice. Then again it could just be her and nothing to do with the car.
