Default Sound systems

Has anybody ever exchanged the Lexus Premium Sound system out of a car and put in a total Nakamichi (sp.) system from another car? Can it be done? Does anyone know what a used
Nak. system might cost?
I have found a guy in Houston who has informed me on this question. He reconditions and installs used radios, and has informed me that a Nakamichi dash unit is simply a swap-out.
I have listened to a car with the Nakamichi system, and I feel that such a unit which is performing up to snuff will do me fine. His price is $200 for the reconditioned unit. That seems
pretty good, as my Pioneer unit needs reconditioning anyway.

Seems like a alot of effort for such little gain in sound quality. Would be more worth it to go all aftermarket.

Well, I have heard such good things about the Nakimichi unit, and I really don't want a bunch
of nitwits tearing into my car. I'm not sure half of them know what they are doing. Does the
Nakimichi unit really have a marked difference over the Lexus Premium unit?

By the way, I did have what those aftermarket guys said was a more powerful woofer installed
in the rear with the appropriate amplifier to power it, and all it does is cause vibration at even
moderate volume levels, so I just don't trust them. Too bad I can't install two superb Altec-
Lansing 6X9s I have back there, but, as you know, the damn car just ain't make to take them.

I'd go aftermarket just to make things easier. The amount of time, effort and money into looking for and installing a 16 year old Nakamichi system is just not worth it. I would just get a decent headunit, it'd probably end up souding better than the Nakimichi's, even on your factory Pioneer speakers. Look into Alpine, Eclipse, and Pioneer for aftermarket headunits.

The Nakamichi is nice. I'm waiting for the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 to come out. I was in Vegas for my birthday and just happened to run into the C.E.S. show and saw it. Iliked what i saw and heard. GPS, MP3's, 30 gig hdd, bluetooth, XM, etc. Pricey but I liked every thing I saw and heard.
