Exclamation 94 LS400 sudden carbon film on back bumper...

Just got back from a night drive to Bozeman, MT and back to Helena. Car performed fine but arriving at home I noticed a circular carbon film on the back bumper just above both exhausts. This happened during a ninety-mile return trip. I only use premium 91 but did put 10 gal in on return trip. Bad gas? Any ideas? Car had 90K service 4 weeks ago. I'll check in the morning to see if she's burning oil, etc...Hope not! Thanks for any help

Oh yeah definitely have that checked out just in case. Thats exactly what happened on my 94 Acura Legend, it turns out it was burning oil and the previous owner had used cheap gas in the car a lot.

Thanks for your reply!

Good news it must have been a moisture thing as the temperature dropped to well below freezing during the trip back and when I looked at it last night the spots were dark...However this morning in the sunlight the spots were gone! What a relief! Well, it got me to join the forum so maybe it wasn't such a bad thing after all...

Also - I would use Shell V-Power Premium gas...just an FYI...my car has been running so much better since I started using it 2 months ago...

I would also check the O2 sensor.... it could not be translating the correct A/F and having the car run rich.

Touch the grime and see if it feels oily or its just carbon. TOuch inside your cool exhaust tip see if its powdery or greasy. That can point you in the right direction
