Default Buy or not to buy? Help!

Hi everyone, just though I join sice my wife is thinking about getting this 93 LS400 (pics below). But first, a little bit about me. I'm currently in the USAF stationed on Okinawa Jp, but currently serving a 4 month tour in Iraq. I've been in japan for 4 years (april 06) and maybe coming back to the US on August. It depends! Well, my wife is staying with her parents in San Antonio, Tx and was suppose to leave 2 days ago, but decided to stay a month more. She was driving her mom's van and suddenly saw this this car that caught her attention, it was a black/grey LS400. They guy will sell it for $4600. I told her that if she really, really like it that she can buy it. I'm happy cause the car looks extremely clean and had only one owner. The only thing is that it has 195K miles on it and I don't know much about Lex's and that's why I've decided to ask for you guys opinion. My wife's dad says it runs pretty smooth and strong and that there's no sign of mechanical problems....he's a mechanic. She wasn't very sure today cause the gauge cluster was kind of dimming out and found out its $800 at the dealer. She took the car back to the guy and after she left the guys said the cluster worked fine. I did read a post in this forum about this cars problems with the gauge cluster. I really think this car is awesome and clean. I was planning on spending $13K on a decent car for her once we got to the US, but she fell in love with this one. Should I buy it or not ? Oh...the car is fully loaded, too.

Thanks for reading!

There are some nice samples out there but I'd wait and find a newer model. $13k will get you a 95+.

FYI - I picked up a '99 with 115k miles and a complete service history for $13.5k last November.

Having that many miles isn't a big deal, BUT without a service history indicating all the preventative maintenance was done I'd steer clear.

Well, the guy had sold it and apperantly my wife went back to check another lex he was getting. The guy that was suppose to buy the car was still waiting for a loan and was going to take a week. Dude (dealer) was like I'll just sell it to you since you have the money. So he did...now my wife got this car. No biggie. I was searching Auto trader for GS300's since they are Aristos in Japan I would get all kinds of parts for it, but not anymore. Maybe next time....
Thanks for the replys guys!

Guys, the owner wants $4600. $13K is what he originally wanted to SPEND on a car.

I think this is a steal...

The car obviously has been taken care of. Anyhow, the car seems top notch. You can find them like this anymore.

Great deal….. check
LS400…….check
Wife actually likes it…. Check… and check again.

The cluster can be fixed for close to $250… there are many online vendors who will perform the service for that price, and offer you a warranty.

So did you say your wife got the car? or missed out on it?
