The car is a 1990 LS400. I drove over to a buddies house to have a beer and everything was working fine when I arrived. When I went to leave though I noticed that my key seemed to not be going in all the way. I turned it right to unlock all the doors and it did except for the driver door. So I went around and jumped in from the passenger side and tried to open it but the actual lock/unlock switch on the door would not open properly. It would close but seemed sluggish and would not open. What the heck could this be??? It came out of the blue. I hope this doesnt run me thousands.

Its a stuck actuator. ~600 bucks at the dealer. Good luck

I had this same thing happen to me. Like mentioned in Lexushead's link, it's most likely the spring. In order to fix this you'll have to tear up the inside door panel.
This is what mine looked like,


I'd recommend calling some junkyards and finding a used door with matching interior. I was lucky in the fact that I allready have a same year LS parts car with matching interior. So I simply swapped out the door lock mechanism and the door panel.
