I just found out from Sal that even tho' the towel brand may be Cannon or Fieldcrest, the quality may not be the highest. He said WalMart-Kart-Mart and other big discount stores sell those big name towels, but it is of lower quality. I checked them out and found a bath towel, Cannon, for $5.48, Wal-Mart. They didn't feel right, i.e. soft, so I asked Sal. He also said he will pay $10-20 for a bath towel at a Bath and Linen store. That way he KNOWS the quality is what it should be. The lower quality may be 100% cotton, but ...."These towels say 100% Cotton but that is not, totally true. The nap is
100% cotton but the backing material has polyester blend in it" says Sal.
I guess the bottom line is buy your towels at some place other than a discount store. Anyone know where we can get them cheaper than $10-20 each and still be of Sal's high standards?

Yeah he's very right.
As for trying to save money on them, dont. Its too easy to put other materials into the towel that might scratch the finish to lower the cost.

it's true that each brand has several models of towels. i would compare the tags. if both say nothing but 100% USA cotton (avoid anything like PIMA, EGYPTIAN, BLEND, etc). if you still can't tell, then buy one of each and compare. if you still can't tell, then return the more expensive one.
my experience with Z and towels has been very good. i found some on sale at a local Kohls.
here are some links i found on a Z forum (i haven't tried them so bear that in mind):
http://store.yahoo.com/fieldcrestcan...let/index.html
http://www.linensource.com/
if you really want to get crazy, polyester and cotton burn in distinct ways. you can test them.

chowder/anyone,
i actually found the Egyptian/pima cotton to be more softer and goes over the paint surface easier. just glad i found you guys who are as into detailing as i am.
