Default Access to Dealer Records - Used LS400

I just bought a 1993 LS400 from a private party (my second Lexus!). . .163K at $5,600. . .car is in outstanding shape. . .premium/power everything, tinted glass, and no accidents or major scrapes/dents. . .owner claims all scheduled maintenance and repairs was done at local dealers.

Will I be able to obtain information about the cars' life-to-date service history from my local Lexus dealership?

Will they hassle me because I didn't buy it from them "precertified" and at 2x the price?

I was planning on going in for 165k (?) service. . .paying the standard rate. . .but asking for historical disclosure on the car, in terms of preventive maintenance, etc. Would members recommend a difference course, or, obtaining the service history directly from Lexus of North America?

Thank you in advance!

If they even try to hassle you, ask for a service manager. Its your right to know the history of your car, so relax.

Any Lexus dealer has the ability to pull up a vehicle maintenance history based on the vin # from a ntionwide database.

It will ofcourse only tell you about work done at Lexus dealerships, but it is a start. They should have no hesitancy about providing this info for you.

Is there any way to get the history for a vehicle that you don't own yet? I'm looking at a GS430, carfax says one owner and that it was serviced a few times at the dealer. It would really help if I could get them.

Not at Lexus of Portland..........

May be an Oregon thing, but they won't send you the info, or even discuss it unless they have proof of ownership(dmv Reg)

Washington Lexus dealers were much more accommodating.

lexus corp. is that the registered owner is the only one allowed to see maint. records.

so you could have the current owner of the car pull them for you

Default how to find out if the lexus was serviced by lexus

you can call any lexus dealer and give him/her the vin # and they will have the history on the car. This is something they do for their customers as part of their service.

they will have the history but they will NOT release it to anyone but the registered owner, also, most dealerships will make you physically come to the dealership and show your vehicle reg and license.

About 2 days after I bought my LS430 from a third party, I went into Lexus of Concord Ca & the service greeter would only read me the service record. About a month later when I went in for the 30K service & they knew I owned the car, they printed the record out & gave it to me. They have been very friendly & helpful every time I have gone in there.

Thanks for all the helpful responses. I think I might be able to get the dealer that currently owns the car (non-Lexus dealer) to get the records from the Lexus dealer, or the dealer says they know the seller (original owner) very well and they can probably get him to make a call.

A few weeks a called a Lexus dealer and asked for service records. They looked it up by the VIN #. I told them I lived far away and if they could mail them to me. The lady said she would, but they never arrived. A few days ago I called back and talked to someone else. The service rep said she would put it in the mail ASAP. They never asked for proof of ownership. I'm hoping they arrive soon.

Before purchasing my LS400; I called the local dealership where I knew it was serviced.

The service manager had zero problems giving me the history of the car. And I had zero proof of ownership. In fact- I told him I hadn't yet purchased the car.

YMMV.

I asked my dad to call his local dealership -- he's purchased 4 cars from them. The service manager gave him the history over the phone.
