Default Rear emblem removal

So are the emblems in the rear just "taped" on or do they bolt into the trunk. I want to remove the "Lexus" and the "LS400" from the rear, will I need to get the deck lid repainted in order to remove the emblems?

thanks!

They might be bolted...just because I knew someone with a 1996 Camry at on time who got her Toyota emblem ripped off some how and it left holes in the trunk. I could be wrong so I'm not betting on it.

Depends on what year your car is.

the "L" in the front grill is held on by a phillips head screw. the rest of the emblems are held on with double sided tape. use a plastic putty scraper to remove your emblems. it should not be that hard. since you are painting the trunk lid you really don't need to use "extra care". no need to worry about scratches. i switched my emblems (on my 98 LS) from chrome to black pearl. the trunk lid should have holes to help center the emblems so they won't go on crooked. when you get new emblems, you will see plastic tabs on the sticky side of the emblems. these tabs go in the holes on the trunk lid.

The thing is i'm trying NOT to have to repaint the lid. If I remove the 2 emblems is there any way of covering the holes left behind without having to putty then repaint?

Put another emblem to cover it.

The GS guys have it easy...no registration holes.

To fill and paint, ball park is $320. (Quotes I have had at regular body shops.) Although I did get one for $175...from a door ding repair service, this was a refferal by the Lexus dealer BTW.

They are held on by little plastic clips I think

yeah, the older LS's are held on by clips. i don't know what year they converted to sticker emblems, i'd have to ask my father (lexus autobody mechanic).
