Default Water in Trunk

We had probably between 6"-10" of rain in central PA over the past 2 days. My trunk was closed, but the water got somehow. The trunk was flooded. Water level was above the spare tire.
Base on my inspection, looks like the weather sipped through the rubber weather strip.
Please help ASAP if you had experienced this .
Thank you.

I've had the same problem everytime I washed the car or whenever it rained. I'm planning on installing a new weather strip and hopefully that'll solve the problem. I'll report back if the problem gets resolved.

had the same thing happen, on my dads camry tho. thing to look for are the weatherstripping on the trunk seal, or, more importantly, make sure the taillights are sealed tight. thats were most of the water was going int othe trunk of our car.

Seems like a common problem as i have this too.... good advise with the taillights though, when i was trying to trouble shoot my problems i found water coming through there, i fixed it but that still didnt stop all of it. Have any of you guys replaced the weather stripping? did it fix the problem?

Replace the weatherstrippin, its probably dry rotted, also is their a drain plug in the trunk? did you also check and make sure there is no rusting or mildew/mold

Try and find where exactly its leaking from as itll make it an easier fix.

Also is the trunk shutting properly? Part of the unibody could be bent if it was ever in an accident all too often i hear of guys doin restos to only finish and doors dont close

Also a caulking gun is your friend

Looked like it came from the rear area where the trunk lock is. I will check the area around the tail lights. Yes, I removed the 4 rubber-hole covers: 2 under the spare tire and (2) from the little compartments (left and right of trunk).
I'll keep you posted.

Thank you all.

Most of the time the weatherstrip ISN'T to blame for leaks, as there is already a channel that lets the water drain away. The most common problem is usually with the taillights or lock, especially after any type of body work - body shops are notorious for not putting things back together properly.

Also if you have a spoiler they sometimes don't seal the holes correctly for mounting or wires and water gets in there as well.

Thanks DoubleWhoosh:
I will check the tail lights. Ones attached to the trunk, the body or both?

Yup, trunk and body both, wire grommets and mounting holes. You will probably be able to see a white line where it dripped if you look closely.

I also forgot, if you take off the trunk trim, you can have someone lock you inside the trunk and spray water all over and you might see where it is coming from. Make sure it's someone that will actually let you out though!

Hey Brian you wanna come over and get locked in the trunk so we can test yours?

If the bodyshop can't fix the leak problem, then sure, I'm up for it. I gotta get some other stuff done by you anyways...you'll be hearing from me in a month or so?

Ok, but you'll have to find someone else to let you out of the trunk
