A few basic service questions...
Hi all,
About to do a full service on 96 LS400 at 150K. A few questions:
1. ATF: Type T-II or equivalent. Any good equivalents out there or do I have to go to Toyota dealership?
2. Brake fluid: Shop manual says FMVSS No. 116 DOT 3 or SAE-J1703. Is this regular DOT 3 fluid (gunk)?
3. Power steering fluid: Dexron-IIE ATF, can I use Dexron III?
4. Tranny filter - do I need to go to Lexus or is this a cheap toyota part?
5. Spark plugs - any gotchas?
6. Do I need to change the air con fluid and/or filter?
Thanks for any tips! My LS is still working 100% perfectly and floats on air. Unbelievable, and I want to keep it that way!

Ok thanks for the reply!
T-II ATF $385 / qt at Toyota, $9.45 at Lexus dealership! Go figure
Also the tranny filter is a wire mesh that can be cleaned and does not need to be replaced.
Just one more question - what's the life expectancy of the plug wires. The guy at the lexus shop said if its working fine (which it is) then don't replace them.

Get the T-IV fluid, not T-II, if such still exists. At 150K, most likely the plugs were replaced at 90K, so it might be time to change them anyhow.

after a couple years it might be a good idea to change them. but if u want to save ur self some money u dont have to replace them till they start giving u trouble
